Urban Mosaic is on a mission to build a multi-faceted and scalable change model, equipping urban slum communities to work towards their own lasting transformation.

reaching the 'unreached'

Over the past decades hundreds of millions of people have moved to cities in hope of a better future. Yet, every single day, over 100,000 of them end up in an urban slum. By now, 1.3 billion people live in urban poor communities. In 2050 close to 40% of the world's population will live in a slum.

Addressing urban poverty holistically

Many nonprofit organizations focus on meeting a single need like creating jobs or building schools. We believe that the only way to end urban poverty is to focus on five key areas that address the causes of this poverty.

  • Holistic: Locally-led Development
  • Fostering Hope: Strengthen Faith Communities
  • Rebuilding Relationships: Peace Building
  • Justice Oriented: Drive Systemic Change
  • Scalable Solutions: Reproduce and Multiply

Measureable Results

mobilizing local resources

Our work produces tangible, measurable life change in the urban poor communities we're involved in. We measure "transformation" as the growing presence of ten signs of transformation that visibly affect the circumstances of individuals, communities, systems and local cultures.

Where We Work

We're currently working in several municipalities on the eastern side of Mexico City, an area that has been deemed among the most violent and poverty-stricken regions of the country.
